How does this film reference Curse of the Jade Scorpion, as IMDb claims?

Under "Movie Connections" this claim is made but no details are given... does anyone know?
Thanks.

I haven't seen Jade Scorpion, but the only thing I can think of as a reference is the scene in the hallway where the Chinese translator is trying to get Val away from the reporter. He says Val wanted to show him a piece of jade. As they are walking away the translator says to Val you realize there's no piece of jade. And Val says yes I get it there's no piece of jade.

I guess it could be a just a coincidence, a very veiled reference, or maybe because of the cultural significance of jade in the Chinese culture that's what made Woody make that choice in the script.

Love means never having to say you're sorry. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Thanks. Those are good thoughts. I've seen both films a number of times and I think one of your ideas is likely the "reference" someone thought he caught.
It's so foolish of the IMDb to say one film references another without citing how. They do that often and it should stop.
Thanks again.

Yeah well it's IMDb. Anyone can submit anything and a lot of erroneous information gets through.

It's more foolish to assume that the mere mention of a word from the title of another movie constitutes a "film reference".

Which is why I used quote marks and the word "thought;" this clearly wouldn't constitute a reference. But I think MitchumsGal probably cites what the IMDb wrongly thinks does.

The movie Woody's character directs is a 1940's mystery and the description of it sounds a lot like Jade Scorpion. Woody's character has to pick a watch for the film and that is a direct reference to the watch in Jade Scorpion. How many films hinge on a watch? Allen wrote both scripts at the same time.

Aha!
Yes, by George, I think you've nailed it...
Thanks!

Allen used Chinese Cinematographer Zhao Fei (Fei Zhao) on Sweet and Lowdown, Small Time Crooks and Curse of the Jade Scorpion. Since Fei is not fluid in English a translator was required to communicate with Allen. It is a reference TO the Jade Scorpion, not a reference to something in it.
