Why does he take a shot at the French?

He admits the film is garbage when he watches it after recovery & when he says, about the critics, "this time they got it right" to his son. Yet, he ends the film with the French loving his crap picture that he directed blind! The French have basically saved his career & yet he takes a clear shot at them. Why?

I might be wrong!

Its just a joke. Can't he write a character that says things he personally in real life doesn't believe?

reply

Or a shot at himself, don't the French like his movies?

It's a little bit autobiographical. Woody's films often do very well in France rather than in the US. The scene at the end of 'Hollywood Ending' shows that Woody loves France because his films do so well there.

Allen survives off the European market these days. The American market has been dumbed down to the point, that few can relate to his films anymore.

Look when this film was made! Stiffy just wanted to do his part as a patriot and strike a blow for George W Bush as part of the glorious Freedom Fries Campaigne.
