4 stars out of 5. Here's why:

VAL WAXMAN has been hired to direct a movie. The pressure of making a big-budget blockbuster and the stress of working with his ex-wife ELLIE (the producer) and her new fiancée HAL (the head of the studio) causes VAL to suffer from hysterical blindness. What?! A blind filmmaker?! As a film goer, I'm happy to read such an original premise. As a film critic, I'm angry that I can never use the "This movie is so bad that the director must've been blind" joke again.

The main problem is that some of the gags depend on the characters acting dumber than they really are. Nobody notices that VAL is blind, despite the fact that certain people (the only ones VAL trusts with his secret) are clearly guiding him and that he never makes eye contact. Speaking of, there are times where he's facing in the wrong direction. Can't he tell where the sound is coming from?
