How Come the Low Average Rating?

The Arithmetic Mean = 7.4, and the Median = 8, yet the Average Rating is only 5.8 ???!!! How come? (I have never seen such significant discrepancy regarding similar SF - i.e., American - films.) It should be corrected!

imdb uses some algorithm to prevent "vote stuffing" (votes which are extreme to change the score)
I bet they just throw away every vote which is a 10 or a 1 and make an average on the rest.
Which is a stupid method in my books, but well, IMDB was never known for being good.
