Wonderful

This is a great production combining two of Nancy Mitford's best loved novels - the Pursuit of Love and Love in a Cold Climate. I wonder why they haven't put it on DVD in the UK - I have the video but it would be lovely to have it on DVD with the omnibus program about Nancy that ran on the BBC when the series was shown in 2001. The series would have been even better if the BBC were able to run to a few more episodes (this seems to be trend with period pieces now - I suppose we just don't have the attention span anymore). This problem could be rectified if the 1980 series was also put on DVD!

Rosamund Pike is perhaps a little too beautiful for Fanny but she plays the character wonderfully. Alan Bates was brilliant as Uncle Matthew totally as I had imagined him - well he was such a brilliant actor. I also love Sheila Gish as Lady Montdore.

I think Nancy would have approved!

I too can't understand why this delightful, though truncated version is not available on DVD here.Especially when you can buy the Region 1 version from the BBCamericashop web site.Someone in charge of the lottery which decides what DVD's to release,is missing a trick here,I feel.We must find out who's in charge and write their name on a piece of paper, then place it in a drawer.
Have never seen the 1980's longer version, and would love to have the chance. But fear it would require a mortgage to afford it....if in fact it was actually released.

Great Idea - will do some investigation and let you know - I already have a few names in one!!

Recently bought a region 1 DVD of the version with Alan Bates. They are readily available, new and sealed on the USA e-bay site, for around $20. Great if you have a multi region DVD player.(which I don't,lol). But its quite easy to find a code to make any particular machine region free,on the net...Seems a lot of bother, but was well worth it to see this again.
