Mitford Movie or MiniSeries?

So if they were to do a movie or miniseries based on the family that was the inspiration for Love in a Cold Climate who would you most want to cast in the significant roles? There's potential for a lot of cool cameos considering how many notable figures the Mitfords knew.

Lord Redesdale
Lady Redesdale
Nancy
Pamela
Tom
Diana
Unity
Jessica
Deborah

Bryan Guiness
Oliver Watney
Derek Jackson
Peter Rodd
Sir Oswald Mosley
Cynthia Mosley
Lady Alexandra Metcalfe
Esmond Romilly
Robert Treuhaft
Lord Andrew Cavendish
Gaston Palewski

Other Friends or Notable Figures in the Mitford Lives

Violet Hammersley
Paul Cesar Helleu
Evelyn Waugh
Winston Churchill
Clementine Churchill
Randolph Churchill
Adolf Hitler
Putzi Hanfenstaengel (sp?)
Julius Streicher
Joachim von Ribbentrop
Duke of Windsor
Duchess of Windsor
Lady Ravensdale
Marquess of Hartington (William Cavendish)
Kathleen Kennedy (Marchioness of Hartington)
James Lees-Milne
Lytton Strachey
Dora Carrington
JFK
Ann Farrer
Robin Farrer
Maya Angelou

Obviously they wouldn't put notable actors in all of these roles but I thought I'd include a wide range people to select from. (Not that I'm really expecting anyone to reply to this post as this board gets practically no activity.) ;-)

Ahhhh a series on the Mitfords would be beyond amazing! It would have everything; love, sex, politics, intrigue, hatred, family, friendship.

I think Decca is a dead-ringer for Ginnifer Goodwin from "Big Love" although I don't know if I would cast her per-say. I'm horrible at the "who would you cast" game anyhow, so I have nothing else to add other than someone should write a series about the Mitfords.

Such a good call on Goodwin for Decca. I've also heard Charlize Theron suggested for Diana - not a bad idea, I reckon.

I've been writing this series in my head since I saw this post almost a year ago. I have to conclude that it would be neccesary to be a Full-length, several seasons series in order to *really* get all the story in...think about it

Season 1 (early 1930s-outbreak of war):
Nancy in the Bright Young Things, beginning her writing career, relationship with the homosexual Hamish St. Claire, rebound marraige to Peter Rodd, tensions with Diana and her mother & her independence/dependence on the family, etc.

Pamela doin her thing

Tom with his homosexual affairs at Eton & I also believe he had an affair with a promninent actress of the time, involvement

Diana as a society beauty, marraige to Bryan, Dora Carrington's suicide, her affair with Mosley/involvement with the BUF, friendship with Hitler

Unity as a young teen rebelling, odd/fascist tendencies, relationship with Decca, friendship with Hitler, attempted suicide

Decca as a kid with Honnish language and her communist beginnings and the Running Away Account, actually running away, her daughter dying, moving to America with Esmond, meeting Virginia Durr the civil rights activist

Debo doin her thing, "coming out"

Season 2 (Duration of War):

Nancy working at Heywood Hill bookshop, informing on Diana to the authorities, meeting the Colonel, affair with the Colonel, begins writing "The Pursuit of Love" which brings her family fame

Pamela marrying Derek Jackson, didn't she have some lesbian tendencies? Lets make sure she does in the series

Tom going off to war, fighting in the war, dying

Diana goes to prison, stuff goes down. Muv is a loyal visitor. Eventually released

Unity as an invalid and the implications that has for Muv, Farve, Debo, everyone close to her.

Decca raising Dinky, Esmond off at war, Esmond dying, her decision to stay in America, meeting Bob Treuhaft, moving to California, second marraige, protesting against Diana's release from prison.

Debo getting married, her friendship with JFK's sister Kick (who was her sister in law), Kick's death, her becoming a Duchess.

Season 3 (after the war-early 50s):

Nancy moves to Paris to be with the Colonel, he is less than thrilled, she finally finds professional success but struggles with personal unhappiness, the mending of her relationship with Diana, etc.

Pamela doin some more lesbian stuff. Also some farming. Gets divorced.

Diana focuses on Mosley's political career after they are released from prison, she finds out he is still being habitually unfaithful to her, the social ostracism coming from being out of prison

Unity would obviously die around this time

Decca joins the Communist Party in America, Civil Rights activism, raises her family, her son dies, persecuted by the Red Scare, she goes back to England for the first time in 20+ years. I really like her daughter Dinky too, she could become a more "main" character as she ages.

Debo begins building Chatsworth, her empire. I don't really know what else Debo was up to around this time.

SO, in conclusion, the show would need to go at least three seasons. Of course other very interesting stuff happens AFTER the early 1950s including Decca's journalism/writing career, Debo's "platonic" relationship with JFK, Various in-family conflicts particularly between Diana and Decca that is never really resolved, etc.

Sorry this is so hopelessly long I just wanted to write all of that out because it's been in my head for some time. :)
