Who was Takuya?

First off, I loved this movie. It affected me in a profound way. I have so many questions about it, though...one of them is, who was Takuya?

The scene on the balcony between the school teacher and his wife imply that they both know Takuya and he, along with the school teacher, have joined the cult. Later, Kiyoka gets a call from Takuya and everything seems to be all right with him -- he's left the cult and has gone on with his life.

Would love to hear others' interpretation of this and the entire movie.

Takuya is their son. He was never in the cult, just a little kid, at the end she's checking in with him at her parents' place where she had left him for them to babysit. Remember the scene with the poetry book where she berates her husband for not even asking about him.
