Such a shame kids today aren't watching these on TV...

The other day I was talking about my daughter about her friends and said something like "You guys look like THE LITTLE RASCALS" and she said "What's THE LITTLE RASCALS????"

She's 8 years old and has never seen an episode of THE LITTLE RASCALS! i remember watching it on TV all the time as a kid. You would think with all the cable stations available SOMEBODY would play it!

I remember about ten years ago someone like TV LAND would play it at six in the morning and my friend used to call me up and tell me it was on!

I guess Im going to have to see if NETFLXI has it. If not I will have to order the box set that AMAZON is selling.

Yep- the NAACP knocked this out, which is disappointing, since it was an intergrated show. The white kids were stereotyped as much as Buckwheat. I wish some cable network had the guts to put it back on the air-

UPDATE: I bought the box set from AMAZON and my daughter absolutely loves it! She begs me to put it on!

I have always tryed to hunt down old shows I enjoyed as a kid and get them on dvd (if available) so she can see what I liked as a child. She's very honest..if she doesn't like a show she lets me know. But, man! Nothing could have prepared me for the way she has embraced THE LITTLE RASCALS!

I guess they have a timeless appeal.

The Little Rascals reruns were enormously popular with kids who grew up in the 1950's to 1970's (I was in the last group) but I don't think many post-1980's kids are very interested in them, largely due to the fact that the newer generations will rarely sit still for anything black-and-white.

Did the NAACP really force The Little Rascals off the air, or is it more likely that a series of 70-80 year old black-and-white comedy short films isn't as much of a ratings draw anymore?

To clarify, this was sarcasm. The NAACP has no objections to "The Little Rascals" as re-edited under their consultation in 1971.

I agree completly. They are so much better than today's mindless garbage like Family Guy, or The Simpsons, or Spongebob Squarepants.

Yes, I use to watch them every Sunday morning in the very early 90's. Loved it! AMC played it in the early 2000's hosted by the kid in Malcolm in the Middle.

VCR, I remember that. With Frankie Muniz? I thought I had dreamed that up.

Yes! They should do this again! Even if it's only on the weekends.

I am 21 and I grew up watching Little Rascals/Our Gang. I even bought the Little Rascals collector's edition :D

I watched the black and white ones when I was growing up in the 80s and just introduced my 4 year old to them (re-mastered for colour) and he loves them! laughs and laughs.

That would have been TNT, not TV Land. The MGM Our Gangs were part of the classic MGM/UA library Turner bought in 1985.

TNT used to run them on Sunday mornings at 6 AM until they stopped running cartoons (I _know_ these aren't cartoons, but they sort of grouped them all in together).

I don't think it's a shame that kids aren't watching these today, because most kids wouldn't watch 70 and 80 year old black and white short films. Most kids wouldn't watch anything in black and white; the ones who would can have someone buy a box set for them.

or maybe some kids live in other countries and had never heard of the show.
when I was little I only knew The Little Rascals as the first film I saw on cinema.

reply

Heh. You know, it's funny, if you bring up the Little Rascals to nearly anyone under the age of 40 today, the reaction is usually either, "Huh???" or "Oh, I loved that movie! Weren't the '90s the best decade ever???!!"
