The Original reality show???

The commercial running claims fear factor to be the "original reality show". They must mean on NBC, because I'm pretty sure shows like Survivor and The Real World were around first.

Actually, I think Candid Camera, Real People, and That's Incredible have Survivor and The Real World beat (they just didn't call it reality TV back then). Survivor may be the first reality COMPETITION show though. I can't think of one before that.

True. I guess even a show like Cops, which has been around since the 80's, could be considered a reality show. But as far as modern reality TV, when the term "reality" started being used, I think survivor was first (or at least before FF). not that it really matters. Just found it funny that they were calling themselves the original reality show.

Big Brother was the first I think, along with Survivor, Fear Factor and The Osbournes. The Apprentice wasn't too long after that.

Survivor came out in the US before Big Brother. Survivor was May 2000 and Big Brother was July of 2000. Survivor had also been taped before May and Big Brother was live in July.
