This sucked big time

What a disappointment. I've been waiting since October for my local video store to get this movie, watched it last night, and found it absolutely agonizing. Mostly I wanted to see the Elliott Smith cameo which lasted all of 3.5 seconds before the movie ended. I actually feel the movie ripped me off, and I want my money back. This movie is apparantly written by two douche bags who were lucky enough to be friends with a lot of cool celebrities, but it doesn't erase the fact that they're douche bags with no acting or writing talent.

Man, I don't know what got in your bag. But Southlander is Dope! I love the movie. Maybe you are older than me. I don't know? I was born in 1969, and this movie is like watching the fun times I had when I was just a little younger and even the case now. The characters in the movie are so hilarious too! And the music is incredible (Most of it). I have watched this movie at lease 100 times and I am very picky about what I watch. Maybe you like movies that have high definition and graphics. I look for characters and things that crack me up. This is what works for me and what Southlander did for me.

P.S. Ross told me today a Southlander-like movie is half-way completed. It is promised NOT to be as loose as Southlander.

No, you're older. I'm 24. Mostly the movie just bored me. And actually the biggest disappointment was the ultra-brief elliott smith cameo, that was the whole reason I rented this movie.

I have no problem with the low-bugdetness of the film. Just the un-funniness. And the redudancy. And lack of plot. Well, OK I didn't really like anyting about it. I actually find it interesting that it cracked you up, because Southlander just pissed me off. Just goes to show you how a movie can polarize audiences.

how valid can your opinion be if you rent a movie just for a cameo? not very.

reply

Well, first of all, celebrity cameos are what this film promotes (just look at the cover). Cameos are the only thing it has going for it. How is my opinion invalid? The script was terrible, the acting worse; the movie was inane, redudundant, and plotless. I have seen student films that are far more entertaining. Pray tell, what reasons for renting this film would make my opinion valid? You need to learn the difference between "invalid opinion" and an "opinion that conflicts with my own."

I agree with your Elliott Smith part. I wanted to see him bad! What amazes me is that when the movie was promoting it's trailers, they heavily promoted Elliot Smith as being in the film. This is insane! Not having the 3.5 seconds of a cameo. What a talent he was too. What is sad too is that Elliot did not look himself in the film. Perhaps this was the beginning of his downfall... For whatever reason he decided to take his life.

A lot of movies do that. The original Scream was heavily promoted as being Drew Berrymore's movie, but she dies in like the first 15 minutes. And in Executive Decision, which was promoted as Steven Seagal's movie, he dies in the beginning too. They use a name to get people to watch even though the actor isn't in the movie very long.

I just need some love so turn out the lights and I'll be left in the dark again.

About Scream; they weren't using Drew Barrymore to promote the film, it was to surprise the audience. Because of the heavy publicity and the fact that Drew was the most famous actor in the film, we all expected that her character would last longer in the film. We didn't expect her to die so it we were surprised that she did. It's kind of clever.
Sorry, i know that's nothing to do with Southlander.
i watched it because of the Elliott Smith cameo. i wish he'd had a bigger part, but then again i don't because i think that it would have extended his appeal to a more mainstream audience, which i don't think he would have liked. The fame.
I liked the film though.

This ruled big time!!! I enjoyed everything about it, even though the main reason I rented it was to see Elliott. It didn't even bother me much that they showed him for a few seconds, the film and music is still good. I plan on buying this film soon =).

Hey, I bought this movie because Beth Orton was in it! And somehow it became a cult classic at my school.

reply

well I ordered it through E-BAY , and RORY COCHRANE is in it! THAT'S THE MAIN Reason why I'm getting it to complete my Rory Movie Collection . So I can't wait to see it .

reply

Oh Rory is Dope, man in this movie. He really rules as the cat that holds this baloney factory indie movie together.

I didn't have high expectations of this movie, I am a huge Beth Orton fan and just to see her in it would have been enough. That said, the movie is actually enjoyable, I am sure that from a technical standpoint it sucked, but I enjoyed it as much as many major releases lately. And if you are in love with Beth, you will watch it a bunch of times. . .I know I will.

Some of the scenes are really funny, especially those with the funk star. And it does have a bunch of cool bonus features, more than most DVD releases.

Heck on ebay you can get a copy for a couple bucks.

Man, and whoever that Snowbunny gal was, I'd sure like to know what she is doing these days.

I hate *beep* who think theirs is the only valid opinion.

How many people do you think went to see EVERY *beep* one of The Muppets movies JUST because of the cameos? Probably more people than the number in your IQ.

Why do you think when they remake an old movie they put the original actor in a cameo role? Because people want to see them.

So, put your hands, palms up, on your shoulders, bring them in toward your neck, get a good grip and pull your head out of your ass.

I bet you voted for obama, too.
