Little more depth perhaps?

I am not sure about the budget of the movie and the actors' previous record and I am neither Italian nor from any of the nationalities depicted in the movie. but still, the protagonist could have showed a little more depth to his character in a movie which was better than Schindler's List on many accounts but I guess Mr. Spielberg and Fiennes both remarkably made that movie such a memorable piece.
