Don't Talk to Strangers

Does neone remember this? Welcome to Pooh Corner put out a public service special that dealt with what children should do when approached by strangers. As noble and aware as it was of the producers, it was kind of creepy as well. I vaguely remember them dancing around to a song about what to do if someone touches your private parts!!

Oh, yeah! I actually remember that! My library has that on video! I used to rent it all the time just to watch the Pooh characters dance around...but, yeah. I agree. It was very scary that they were talking about what to do if someone touched your "private parts". They also had some segments where kids were approached by strangers and it like showed what to do in that situation, like if a stranger offered you candy or money...It even showed what to do if you're home alone! Watching it always made me feel safe because the Pooh characters were talking about it. Somehow, it always comforted me.

Check the gate, watch yourself, check the gate, show me watcha got! And check...

That video was definitely where I learned my stranger danger from. What a classsic! My mom had taped it for us so I would watch it all the time when I was little. Still have that tape... Good times.

Yeah, It's called "Too Smart For Strangers" I loved it as a child. The valuable lessons stuck. And as soon as stanger danger became a concern for me when dealing with my son, I looked it up and found it on ebay. He's six now, and can't stand it. He says there's too much singing, but I still love it!!!!

Just thought I'd spill some of the lyrics to that song you mentioned...

"I'd say No, stop that, it's not okay with me. No, don't do that, I have the right, you see. My body's not at all to blame. I've done nothing bad. And now I'm going to run away to tell my mom and dad."

Hahah.

I rented that tape a few times when I was 6 (now 22) years old and learned
a lot from it. When I was in Kindergarten, my school had that tape in the library and my class watched a few times also.

I somehow remembered it yesterday, and it is on Youtube if you want to watch it again, but you remembered the title a little bit wrong, but I will still give you credit for being close. The title is Never Talk to Strangers, and it is up in 3 parts yes I know that your post is from 2007, and now it is almost the very end of 2013. And the program is from 1985, which is also very outdated on telephones, and phones nowadays are cordless, have caller id, and there are also a thing called cell phones. When was the last time you saw a phone with a cord attached to it. Now a days with caller id it may or may not say the name of a person that is calling, or a company and a telephone #. It may also say same private caller or the phone # might be calling will be private, and it may not be the person that is calling that the name is listed as, but maybe their spouse. And it also gives very good points about the tricks strangers may try to play on kids. Like say they are a friend of their mother or father (or even both), or something unexpected happened and they claim their parents asked them to pick up their son or daughter. And of course how will the kid know for sure they really know their parents, they will even wonder "if you are such good friends of my parents, then why don't I know you?"

Sorry somehow I forgot the title myself but ngreen-8 ยป had already long posted it, it is called Too Smart For Strangers, which also all but one of the kids were too smart right away, or if you still have a vcr you can use Aazon.com still has plenty of old copies of it on its website ranging from very cheap under #10.00 to over $80.00. Too bad this nor the series has been released on dvd, as I am sure a lot of people had forgotten it, and today's kids wouldn't know the show in less they have seen it somehow.

So glad I found this thread! For years I thought I was crazy for having this vague childhood memory of Tigger telling me not to let strangers touch my private parts. Nice to have confirmation this thing existed. Sure it was well intentioned but reeeaaallly weird...then again considering I've made it to 30 without getting molested I guess it worked, haha
