Steel 3000 BC?

Pretty damn funny that they're using steel in this movie. About 4000 years before it was really used. The Scorpion King takes place at the beginning of the bronze age, 3000 BC. It may not be a historical movie, but couldn't they at least have read just a little history before making it?

Its a movie,, not a history lesson

reply

Well done. You're about the millionth person to notice this. And it's actually about 1400 years prior to the earliest known forging of steel.

Based on sculpture, wall painting and literary description from the period there were indeed hotties around. And, of course, by performing *detailed* examination of female remains from the period. Oh yes. I went there.

They did have make-up and "things we have today to take care of ourselves", by which I assume you mean combs, soap etc. Anything else you want to be wrong about?

reply

They speak english too...

I know it's so annoying, I mean it just goes to show how lazy filmmakers are, they couldn't be bothered to teach the entire cast Akkadian.

Have you ever read a history book or looked at the History Channel? They had all of those things (makeup, soap, etc.) I do agree that womem were smaller, but beauty has pretty much been a consistent ideal in the human mind. If it wasn't there would have been hardly any Neo-Historic art. There are many venuses that showcase the idealized forms of the female body(all of which are subjective to specific cultures and values of fertility; ex. The Venus of Willendorf). Oh yeah, and the language of the Akkadians is pretty much a dead and long gone language. The closest thing there is to it is the Code of Hamurabi (Sumerian). Akkad which was located in the same region (modern day Iraq) was based on a form of Sumerian text and language , but their relatioship is similar to the English language being related to Italian, Spanish, or French- all are Romance Languages.

There is one thing ALL of you are overlooking: All the females have shaved legs and armpits! I doubt that even if the women looked close to being as hot as they were in the movie, they would all have shaved legs and armpits. Those two areas for women weren't really shaved during ancient times except maybe in Ancient Egypt, but that was AFTER this time period...

reply

Please don't be stupid. The women in the film were prostitutes, so they would have shaved their hairy bits even if normal women didn't.

reply

People have been shaving forever. Each culture is different. You can use oyster shells to shave with, you can sharpen bronze and get it sharp enough to shave. You can use flint. You can shave with chert if you have to. You can pluck hairs out individually. Clam shells work good for that.

reply

Argh, why are people so dumb?

Akkadian was not related to Sumerian. Sumerian is a linguistic isolate. Akkadian, while written using Sumerian cuneiform like a lot of unrelated ancient languages, is a Semitic language. Not Romance.

reply

You're the dumba$$, I never said Sumerian, WHICH WAS RELATED TO AKKADIAN as you have just pointed out, was a romance language. You need to reread what I typed. I compared SUMERIAN in RELATION to AKKADIAN as the equivalnet to English and its relationship to Romance languages. Seems like someone needs to learn how to comprehend.

reply

Fool. Romance languages are, by definition, all descended from Latin. Akkadian is not descended from Sumerian. Back in your box.

It's DESCENT. Learn to write.

reply

Haha, this post is so stupid it -has- to be a joke.

Thanks for such a brilliant display of idiocy, my friend.

reply

I know, but since everybody is idiotically being realistic here, I decided to be idiotically realistic too.

Besides, it is a joke. Seeing women without shaved legs or armpits would make this movie much worse

Is that the only difference you can come up with? Average height was slightly lower? Actually, many Bronze Age bodies recovered by archaeologists are six feet tall or more (although that's probably because these bodies were well-fed nobles and unusual human sacrifices)... but the principal of exceptional individuals remains the same for the women in the "Scorpion King".

The main examples are prostitutes and a priestess. The priestess comes from a distinguished, noble family of seers, so we would expect her to look healthier than normal people. The prostitutes in Gomorrah's high class establishments are selected for physical attractiveness, so we would expect to see tall ones.

You're wrong. There were tall girls back then. They had cosmetics. They groomed themselves. You're an idiot.

reply

Healthier, yes, but if the gene pool back then was from short people, that would mean their offspring was short too.

reply

Take a look at the movie you're talking about... The Scorpion King... Featuring a man who calls himself "The Rock".

Historical Accuracy and realism aren't exactly what they're aiming for.

reply

Exactly. Plus this movie (&series) has supernatural elements; so in Hollywood-speak, they are set in a different universe!

reply

All the issues one can have with this movie, you picked Steel as the one.

reply

Dude... it's just a movie. It's a fantasy depiction of some lost, ancient period. Almost like Conan the Barbarian or something.
