I was wondering if anyone happens to know what actors in this film were actual gang members? I know the actor who played Alonzo has been in a number of other films and television shows, but other than that, I can't find much info on anyone else in the film, which leads me to believe many of them might be straight off the streets.

I read somewhere that chris (cyril) (not to be confused with kris, the kid with the video camera) anyways i'm pretty sure cyril was a former gang member... as far as alonzo i doubt he was as you used to be an actor on "the secret world of alex mack" lol

In the 'making of' segement of the 'bonus' section of the DVD, he tells us which set he's really from.
He also tells a story that pretty much discloses where they got the idea to have his character hit a guy in the back of the head with a wrench.
they are all gang members except for Alonzo. And the people who didnt play gang members and are just extras just lived in Watts. But the main people all are gang bangers except Alonzo. Most are however ex gang bangers.
