Why is Das Boot the only sub WW2 story that's real?

Are there not a lot of bizarre, exciting, real WW2 US sub stories out there? Just about every other faction of the military has a ton of crazy weird WW2 stories, why not ANY good sub movies except for Das Boot?

I'm thinking it's the same old silent generation thing, where guys that went through that nightmare don't like to talk about it. Look at Saving Private Ryan, only then did anyone realize how bad the Normandy landing was, and guess what, my father was there and he said it was way worse.

Plus, add to that Hollywoods obsession with money and BO, they would never make a Das Boot, Americans don't like movies like that, bahhhhhhhhhhhh!

"If you're gonna do a Bah, do a Bah."

I imagine a submarine would be an excellent place for BO; particularly after several months at sea. Hollywood should take another look!

I don't think good and fictional are mutually exclusive.

Anyway: there are some submarine movies, based on true events, but propably with many errors in the details, and some dramatic lincense.
Subamrine X-1, about small british subs, that entered a harbor and put mines below a German destroyer
There are some German movies based on true events:
a movie about U47's captain who successfully entered Scapa flow. It's more about the man though, and not that good imho.
A German British co-production about the "Laconia Order"

I guess therer are more, probably not that well known.
Most good ones, besides Das Boot are very fictional though.
