If you enjoyed About A Boy, try Music + Lyrics

Another "sleeper" that never seemed to make the big time like Bridget Jones and Notting Hill, Music & Lyrics is another Hugh Grant classic in my opinion. Completely different story altogether, yet there are very good parallels with "Will" in AAB.

Very similar gentle but genuinely funny humour, and also very similar in sentiment.

Been out a while so no doubt in the bargain bucket range on line, check it out and see what you think, but if you liked this I think you'd love M&L.

Just checked and in the UK this is now £3 delivered from Play.com!

Bargain.

Be interested to know how people felt it compared if you do get it.

I'm not going to tell people not to watch Music & Lyrics, because everyone has their own tastes. Still, I liked About A Boy, and I suffered through Music & Lyrics. The latter was just too much of a stereotypical romantic comedy.

I was quite disappointed with Music & Lyrics because I love Drew and anything she's in and feel pretty much the same bout Hugh, but really enjoyed About a Boy.

I don't think they are similar at all but I like Music and Lyrics too. Very funny, entertaining, charming film. Both Hugh and Drew were great in it.

I didn't care for Music and Lyrics ... both were stereotypical romantic comedies but About a Boy, IMO, was clever in a way that Music and Lyrics wasn't.

Plus, personally, I like the English vibe of About a Boy vs. the American vibe of M&L (not that I don't love a good American comedy ... many of them, I love). But it was refreshing to have the English feel in this one ... PLUS, the soundtrack by BDB in About a Boy really helped solidify that.

I love Music and Lyrics, if just for the whole POP (piss take on WHAM!) thing! That had me crying with laughter! The cheesy music video, the dance moves (the hip pop) and the sister who was in love with them! It was so funny!
About a Boy is obviously a better film because it's a deeper story and I do love About a Boy more but Music and Lyrics is a good film for just some light-hearted fun!

"This is my age! I'm in the prime of my youth, and I'll only be young once!"

I agree, I love both.

I was actually not prepared to love M&L at all. I'm a writer and songwriter and the age differences bugged me, the marketing was bad, I just wasn't interested.

Then I saw it and absolutely loved it -- both the parody (the WHAM-era takeoffs are awesome) as well as the truly wonderful exploration of songwriting.

The characters are all actually pretty nice people, which is again a nice surprise. And the singing is lovely.
