I love that scene! That's one of the things I really like about this movie, it lets bit players shine in several scenes like they would in vintage movies. Minor supporting roles in films in the last few decades are usuallly rather colorless and thankless.

reply

Definitely! Well said :)

Yes!

Classic films of yesteryear were truly classics, because "bit players" or "character actors" then were given dialogue and scenes that are remembered today, even though their screen time was in seconds.

Maybe today's prima dona "stars" are afraid of being upstaged!

Stupid!?! I would never call you stupid! To call you stupid would be an insult to stupid people!

reply

Hahahaha I love that scene. So funny!

This movie is so well written.

I imitate that all the time (along with "Are you a real Santa? Delightful!"), much to the delight of my English husband.

SO funny. I love this movie like crazy.

I'm new, please be kind!

I love it too. I wish more people had seen it. They look at me blankly when I mention it. I've even heard Hugh Grant mention it as one of the roles he is proud of. I think it was on Oprah. She look at him blankly and changed the subject.

Perhaps if they keep showing it on cable more people will see it. It seems more and more relevant. Whatever can be done to raise consciousness about poor isolated bullied kids should be done. And I think an enjoyable positive movie like this could help.

I saw that interview too, and it was definitely on Oprah. She asked Hugh Grant which of his films he was most proud of and "About A Boy" was his reply. I think you're right, she didn't ask him why or discuss the film at all, which is a shame. I think it's a great film.
