who would have guessed the 'American Pie' bros directed this???

I remembered thinking this film was excellent, which it was, but had NOT a freakin' clue that when I looked up the director(s), they were the brothers who directed "American Pie."

Crazy, yet somehow awesome because I pretty much hated most of THAT movie.

Agreed. I couldn't believe it when I first found out. How could the people behind this sensitive and touching movie be the same guys behind that crude comedy? Well, they're diverse, I'll give them that.

American Pie actually had a ton of heart. Too bad you missed out on that.

reply

Diverse is right. I never would've guessed it was the same directors.

Mag, Darling, you're being a bore.

Also agree

Talented directors can create films that are very much unlike what they've done before.

Stupid!?! I never called you stupid! To call you stupid would be an insult to stupid people!

reply

Well American Pie may be a crude comedy but it also got a lot of heart to it,
it's a good coming-of-age kind of story. Sure it is not very deep but one can find (very) loose common points between that movie and About a Boy

From what I can remember they were nice people to talk to. I work at HMV Oxford Circus London where the record shop bits were filmed. I know this because me and 4 other members of staff were asked to come into work at 5 am on a sunday morning (there were also about 100 or so extras to fill up the shop as customers). The directors would talk to us between takes. It was filmed on the ground floor and 1st floor. The song that Hugh Grant heard when he went to get the video was only heard in the film and not played in store at the time of filming.

Sounds like a good experience. I often imagine the music being put in later, but I wasn't thinking about it during that scene. They did a good job of making it sound like it was played in the store.
