Clare is just awful!

I don't know if her character gets better but every last thing that came out of her dreadful little horrible mouth made me cringe. What an absolute bi*ch, makes Americans seem like a-holes. Why is she such a miserable wrench?

I just watched the first episode, and I find myself agreeing with you. As an American, I'm embarrassed that she seems so rude to her guests.

I'm hoping it gets better.

Roland, that's a lilac bush!

reply

yeah it was impossible to identify with her character as written. fully and completely miserable.

she tone down after the first 2-3 episodes. There are definitely people like her. I love her character.

reply

I agree completely. I made it through most of episode one. But I'm just not going to continue, because Clare is so irritating and tone-deaf. It's hard to believe the group will get back together to be around such a pushy, pretentious woman.

I can imagine the other characters getting funnier (especially Michelle Gomez's character talking to herself in the mirror, imagining what smart comments she might be making about On the Road -- that little scene rings so true for anyone who feels they're not participating enough in a book group).

I'm glad to hear Clare tones down later... but after reading other comments on the board about how the show continues, I'm going to give this show a miss.

reply

I fully agree. I turned it off about 15 minutes in. I'm sure there are people who act that way, from any country, but I found it rather embarrassing and hard to watch.

reply

Honestly I started watching because of Michelle Gomez, and I wish I could get past the main character enough to enjoy her.
