Great game

For such a great game I cant believe it was called a failure.... They were going to make a second one but didn't want to ave to face the "Flop" again.....Too bad it is excellent

reply

I agree. It was a great game and a great story. The reason it was a flop was because Clive basically took credit for an H.P. Lovecraft story of the same name. People got angry at that fact, even though..all of Clive's stories are based off H.P.'s universe. One reason why it "flopped" was alot of places like Wal-Mart and K-Mart refused to sell it because of it's "Demonic nature." and that hurt sales.

reply

Bombed because Wal-Mart and K-Mart did not sell it. What do you mean ? Painkiller, Blood and many others ect were super hits.

The SP gameplay was short and linear. The load times were long and frequent (too long for an average 2001 system). No multiplayer too. No wonder it bombed.

reply

This was a flop? It could actully be called an excellent game. It was great.

reply

what a shame... I hope they forget about te hole flopping thing and just make a second game cause I really liked it, couldent get past the last boss(the big worm thing)though, so I have no idea how it ends, maybe ill play it again some time...

and I thank God every day for making me an athiest

i talked to Clive at a booksigning recently and i asked him if he plans to work on anymore games in the future. he says he is working on several right now, including a new silent hill game.

what H.P. Lovecraft story did Clive barker base the storyline of the game on? Im really interested in looking into it.

"Marv, this is God. What the HELL were you thinkin?!"

reply

apparently its one of H.P Lovecrafts short stories

though if you ever find out which one id sure like to know

very immersive game and the story wasn't to boring and kept
you interested

The thing which got me was the sounds plays a very important
part to the game

"to lovers and sweethearts

Pray they never meet" ;) Captain Jack master and commander

reply

yeah, the sounds were really well done! it really set the atmosphere for me, i was always jittery about entering a new area then haveing to turn suddenly because of the beast's cry or something like that. Certainly one of the most character driven- atmospheric game ive played in ages, its certainly up there with the best in my book

It's the best horror game and one of the best first person game ever. Generally it had an excellent reviews from critics and players, but it was still a flop. It's a great game.

reply

It's based on a short and obscure story called "Family."

reply

Where can I find this story? Do you mean "Facts Concerning the
Late Arthur Jermyn and His Family"?

reply

Blood was a super hit?
It only got one sequel.

reply

Blood deserved more sequels. They were both great games.

As of '08, i'm playing it now. What amazes me is, that even though this game is from '01, it still looks great. I'm playing on a rig i build roughly a year ago:
Intel core II duo 6600, 8800gts on a 22" @ max resolution...

I've probably beaten this game like 4 times in the past or so, but somehow i can't get enough of it. For some reason it seems that this game is the only one that manages to set an atmosphere that genuinely manages to scare the living *beep* right out of you...!!! I so hoped for a sequal, but that hope (sadly) has long faltered

i need to replay this game!
