'Date With Your Family' or 'Mr. B. Natural'

Which of these is worse? I will say Mr. B. Natural, due to the disturbingness of the "Mr B." Character.

Mr B Natural is jaw-droppingly ill-conceived, and very funny, but it's just clowning about, whereras this short has a strange creeping unease to it. It's more than just a hyperactive lady dressed as a pixie, it works as a kind of David Lynch satire of the 1950s, especially the MST3K version. There's something desperately wrong about the family group it portays, particularly the famous line about how the children should greet their dad as though they were genuinely glad to see him. B Natural is an instant sugar rush of badness, whereas this one sticks with you.

As far as laughs are concerned, I think the top three MST3K shorts are:

1. Mr. B. Natural
2. A Date With Your Family
3. A Day at the Fair

But this is easily the most disturbing of the three.

This one. The undertones of incest are totally creepy, and the 'message' conveyed is that you should be a mindless drone who pretends to care about people and who conforms to social norms and gender roles at all costs. The kind of repression displayed in this short is the kind that leads children to lash out later in life, and this kind of thinking led to the hippie generation and the complete selfishness of the Baby Boomers as they fought back against the repression piled upon them by their parents and society at large. Mr. B. Natural simply can't compete with this level of hair-raising horror.
