Same story as The Iron Giant

I'm not knocking the movie at all. Sanders and DeBlois are great filmmakers. But this is basically the same story as The Iron Giant: Alien killing machine comes to Earth, is reformed by relationship with human child.

Anyway, if you haven't seen The Iron Giant, please do.

Wasn't the Iron Giant based on the book the Iron Man by Ted Hughes?
I can remember that from school...

that is an interesting similarity.

Optimus Prime For President 08'!!!!!

reply

Yeah, it's the same plot, but the friendship between the Hogarth and the Iron Giant was much more better portrayed, although "The Iron Giant" hadn't the big family issues that "Lilo" had (who did maked "Lilo" a rare film).

But "The Iron Giant" is a much better film. (Sorry folks, but that's my opinion).

You are welcome to your opinion -- but I am going to disgree! :o)

I love both too, but think L&S is the better movie because it has more. TIG is a very straight forward and almost somber movie, while L&S has more fun, more heart, great music, and an equaly good story.

I am starting to think animation (in general) is getting to be much better than live action.

Both are excellent.

I'd say Lilo and Stitch has a more eccentric feel to it, though. And a lot of the characters in certain regards ring truer. Nani compared to Hogarth's mother for example, I found Nani a more engaging character, the same being true of the Social Worker and Christopher McDonald. (That one scene where the social worker chews Nani up after their house blows up is heartbreaking, like you get a sense that he really cares about his job, rather than McDonald's character who is just kind of a jerk.)

Don't get me wrong, again, I love both. I think the taste is much better in Iron Giant. It's got that hardcore cold war edgy stride, while it lacks the joyful Hawaiian flavour. Again, they're both very different, the flavour and the theme of the aliens (or alien) makes all the difference.

reply

... Not really...
I love both movies, and I can see the similarities, but the morals the movies teach are different. Iron Giant teaches people that "you are who you choose to be", while Lilo and Stitch teaches about the importance of family and acceptance.

You too are welcome to have your opinion, but I must disagree with you agian.

I didn't found "Iron Giant" somber. It's straight forward, yeah, but it has more charm, more funny scenes and more heart than "Lilo". And, least but not last, a better script.

"Lilo & Stitch" has some good scenes, yeah, and it began good, but lacks of a good script and good characters. The second act of almost doesn't have anything funny at all and it drowns in chaos and sentimentality.

Lilo and Stitch them selfes has little chemistry, in fact Stitch doesn't even care about Lilo, he only uses her to protect himself. When Lilo tells about her parent's demise, Stitch immediatly leaves and recreates the scene in the book (which proofs that he does only care about himself). I know that he was created to not have any human feelings, but still... When he finally decide rescue Lilo, it seems like he does it just to please Nani and at the end we don't actually feel for symphaty for him when he wants to stay. At least Lilo and Stitch have more chemistry in the series.

Sorry for being negative, but that's my point of view

Wow. You should review the movie a second time. Your assessment is, quite frankly, wrong. Whether you like it or not, or think that it is better or worse, is irrelevant.
The fact is that you have misinterpreted the movie, either from not paying close enough attention, or through tainting via the natural twisting of memory.

reply

No, I'm not actually wrong. That's my impression of the movie and you can't judge me for being wrong.

It seems like you haven't payed enough attention. I've seen the movie several times and I still see the flaws, cause it is a flawed movie.

reply

And besides; usually when I'm discussing a movie, I'm often doing it from a objective point of view. A movie that is good can still have it flaws, but I guess you aren't capable of seeing that.

reply

no, his assessment is not wrong at all. did you even watch the movie? stitch was actually using lilo all along to protect himself from jumba? if you missed that, then you´ve not payed attention at all. besides, the script is cluttered and the events happens randomly. so StartingAllOver14 is far from wrong.

lol, the iron giant somber?? you've gotta be kidding, right? did you even watch the movie??

reply

I like them both... Don't see one as being significantly better than the other...

It's odd though. Although I'd say "The Iron Giant" may technically be the "better film", I think I prefer watching "Lilo" :)

Anyway, both great films!

THe Iron Giant is one of my favorite films of all time and Lilo & Stitch is at the very top of my favorite Disney films. That having been said, this plot similarity is quite vague. compare the aliens in question, and the children, and how their relationships progress--all very different. put it in all the side characters and what not and you've got two drastically different animations.

listen to the receiving end of sirens.
