What I think happened..

I saw this for the second time and really tried to pay attention to the subtle things, and here's what I got:

My theory is that Amy *was* raped and that she knows it. Here's why.. Notice when she first comes to the motel and they're all casually talking. She tends to speak to John in a different tone than she does with Vincent. She seems to be a little moody. When John says he's leaving and Vince says that he should stay, Amy objects and says something like "Maybe John doesn't want to." She says a few things in John's defense of leaving, like she wanted him to leave, but trying not to seem obvious.

When the idea that she was raped comes up, she starts acting a little different. Notice how she says "Tell me again what happened" several times. She knows what they said happened. She's a district attorney, she has to pay attention to the details.

Amy and John argue about it some more. "Yes I did." "Well I say you didn't." etc. Amy mentions, "Because you had your hand over my mouth?" then sarcastically replies "Well, I let everyone do that." Some people have mentioned that that signifies that she didn't think she was raped, but I saw that was sarcasm, trying to ride the whole thing off with a laugh.

I think Amy didn't want it to be rape, but she knew it deep inside. She just didn't want to acknowledge it because she'd had a crush on John and didn't want to think of him as a bad person. After that, she probably came to see John in a different light, but never dealt with the rape.

Earlier in the conversation with Vince, Amy, and John, Vince mentions how he didn't remember Amy dating anyone after John. I think it's pretty common that a rape victim wouldn't date for awhile after the rape. Fear it would happen again, not having emotional stability, busying themselves to forget/put it behind them, etc.

Eventually, Amy rips into John by saying "I hope you die a painful death with a steel rod being shoved into your insides, puncturing your stomach, and battering your heart." (not quite, but it's close) Which could signify that she was pregnant and had an abortion, or just that she wished him the worst. Either way, if she still didn't believe it, she would rip into him that much. Throughout most of the movie, she tried her hardest to be happy (ie, smiling, laughing, etc). Some may argue that she only said that to please Vince as she said "Is that what you wanted?" to him, but I don't think she would have said it with that much true anger and bitterness if nothing had actually happened. Sure, she'd be offended that he said that he did rape her if he didn't, but the other things I've mentioned play with it well, I think. Then she spites them both by "calling the cops" and walking out, leaving them with the damage.

That's how I saw it.

I totally agree with you. And there's one more thing. She said that she got kinda fat in college and when Vince says that he did too, she said that it probably were different reasons with her. Maybe she really got into personal trouble because of the rape.

the reference to the steel rod doesn't mean that she had an abortion it just refers to his co*k.

Breakfast in bed, lunch in bed. Cleaning the sheets, cause there's food in the bed.

... You know that he admits to raping her right? And also, pretty much everything you said was explained in the movie.
