Why doesn't John kill Ben?

Why doesn't John kill Ben since he is going to commit suicide why not kill the man that took his wife's life?

The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was making the world believe he didn't exist.

Because he was essentially a good character - it's only Jago's schemes and suggestions that ever make him doubt anything. Also, it would torment Jago more to have to stay alive.

looks like it's been a while since anyone commented on this movie - i saw it dec l2 2007 - and i think ben didn't kill jago because he had already killed his wife and didn't have anything left to live for..a police commissioner in prison? i don't think so! also -i don't think Ben was going to be tormented by staying alive..that character had no feelings - except the feeling of hatred for everyone...he didn't even like lulu...or himself really...just my opinion..i enjoyed watching him in this movie so much..Mr. Eccleston is a terrific actor! i even watched Gone in 60 seconds just to watch him!

What was the point of killing Ben when he was screwed anyway. It's better to leave Ben alive and have him feel guilty about what he'd done. Throughout the film we follow his side of the story and he begins to feel a little bit of guilt over how things turned out. He never intended for Dessie to be killed; John did that himself.
