This was not originally a movie...

I've seen some people griping about this film online, & it seems to me that they're judging it as if it was intended to be a movie all along. It wasn't. It was originally going to be a series of commercials for Homestore.com (which are included as extras on the DVD), but Smith later decided to edit the footage together into a longer film. True, if it was going to be a feature film all along, it could've been done better, but, considering how this project came about, I'm personally willing to cut Smith some slack & go along for the ride...

Interesting to note. I had no idea. Thanks!

That's right, this wasn't intended to be a movie. Chris Smith, working myself and John Shirley from TBWA Chiat/Day proposed extending the footage into a feature documentary. After months of arm-twisting and cajoling, the folks at Homestore.com (flush with stolen funds from their investors) agreed.

along with other footage related to each home.

Irregardless if it was or wasn't intended to be a movie, in a sense, it is considered one despite it being a documentary with "movie" in its title. It would have been better had it focussed on one home per segment instead of bouncing back and forth like it was looking for segments scattered about. Also, there should have been more unique and eclectic homes & their owners to fill the film out.

"irregardless" is about as far from a word as you can get.
