I ADORE that song! I downloaded it and I have a couple of 'moves' I like to do whilst singing along. Sad, I know. But highly enjoyable and uplifting.

I miss Rainbow. I miss our Geoffrey. I miss George. I miss Zippy. Heck, I even miss ol' Bungle. I miss Rod, Jane and Freddy .... actually, I don't miss them. They were an annoying bunch of mo'fos.

It reminds me of coming home from junior school at dinner times, switching on the tele and eating banana sandwiches... ahhhh memories!

Apparently the Rainbow crew are still around. Geoffrey lives with Barrymore in Portugal, Zippy and Bungle now have their own show called 'Richard and Judy', George is the brains behind C4's reality TV output and Rod, Jane and Freddie are still available as a great addition to Barbeques, Campfires etc.

obviously a local delicacy then..... I thought everyone had eaten banana sarnies at some time in their life.

ps. Milligan was a genius, have you read the hilarious 'Spike Milligan Letters' or his collection of poetry.. well worth a look!

I know people eat banana sandwiches (I've never tried one though!) - it just sounds sweet! I remember remember reading in an old "Smash Hits" that Ronan Keating's (!) favourite sandwich is banana and peanut butter.

PS: I haven't read anything by Spike, but I just really loved that epitaph! That's the best epitaph anyone could have, let alone a comedian! I've actually got a copy of Spike's version of the Bible! Have you read that?

reply

we was Soooo poor that I was raised on banana and crisp sandwiches until I was 15, couldn't afford peanut butter like Ronan though

Spike lives here now:

If you can't be a good example you'll have to be a terrible warning

Hehe I still find myself sining it too from time to time... However now being a little bit older and wiser I noticed that technically the rainbow is frowning... being upside down and all! I guess that didn't make for such fun lyrics :p

The best theme tune/opening titles to any kid's programme on ITV, period.

It's the way the drums kick in that do it for me. You get the line, 'Paint the whole world with a rainbow', and then just that slight pause, and then the drums kick in. Musical genius. Could have come off Sgt Pepper.

Just a painted face on a trip down suicide row

You can download the theme online - the version that's on the first Rainbow album - but it's not the same - the TV version is so much better!
