Dip on animation quality.

Overall, I believe the animation through series has been exceptional; however on the very last season which is the legion of doom story, the animation is up to standards compared to the last season.

It's minor nitpick as I observe how fluid and sharp episodes like "the return" episodes based on Cadmus and "epilogue" are the best so far on animation television compared to the following season which was still good but not as candy to the eyes in comparison to the one before.

Am I the only one that noticed this?

Yeah...I really hadn't noticed if the 5th season was consistently "worse" animation or not.

...and I was just mentioning in another thread exactly the thing you noticed about Epilogue...in that it was really nice how excellent the work they did on it was. My explanation for that instance (just a guess I admit) is that since the episode has only one real full-on combat action sequence, they could expend more/time and resources in making everything look real nice.

Ya know...I just thought about the fact that, allegedly, they thought the whole series might have to end there, on Epilogue. So whatever money they had left over maybe they felt free to use up.

I don't remember if The Return also had that quality. I do always like how nice Shayera looks when she does her reveal walk up from the shadows at the end.

Another episode that is noticeably perfect animation is The Terror Beyond. It's simply beautiful. From inexplicably large interior of Dr. Fate's castle, to Superman and Grundy fighting amongst the newly built pyramids to Diana and Aquaman fighting on Easter Island. I think that was probably the most well animated episode of the series. At least the Part 1 was. I don't remember if Part 2 was as good.

I'm an artist so I notice details to animation and other weird stuff that isn't too apparent to most at first but you may be right.

They figured epilogue and some episodes before then was going to be the final time visiting these characters so they spent a lot of money making look good as possible and when they got picked up for another season, they couldn't spend as much money as before especially the legion plotline doesn't has as much depth and oomph than the Cadmus.

When they completed the Cadmus Arc, I don't believe they had a new order for more episodes, yet. However, once they did, I believe their budget was cut down, which affected the animation quality. I also believe that some of their crew moved on to other shows, which affected the look of things. That's from memory, but I'd have to hunt down interviews to confirm that.
