What kind of movie is this?

I really wanna see this movie, but every time it comes on, I'm in the middle of something, or I fall asleep, or I catch it when it's already halfway through. Dark forces are preventing me from seeing this movie. My question is: is this a kids' movie, like the Goosebumps series, or is this a real, bonafide scary movie? Just curious.

quite right - it isnt scary or good. its occaionally interesting, but mostly showing off. erik per sullivan is good, but then im convinced nothing related to malcolm in the middle can do wrong.

i really wouldnt bother watching this film, it wasnt exactly scarey, even though it was made out to be and was meant to be. I found it really hard to understand as well, but its not a kids movie, but i still wouldnt advise anyone to watch it

I thought this movie was really really boring, its not scary, its not even interesting in the slightest, it did start off ok for the first ten minutes then just seemed to lose the plot.

Actually I thought this movie was pretty cool in its own way. And a little creepy, but it was more strange than anything else. This movie was similar to a film called Pumkinhead, only, Wendigo runs much faster than Pumpkinhead does! LOL! That Wendigo can really crank up the pace quite a bit!

If by any chance you did like this movie, I would recommend Pumpkinhead.

This movie is horrible. Look at the review on the main page. That person tells it like it is. I hated every minute of this movie. You kept expecting something to happen, and yet, it never did. Maybe 45 minutes into, they threw in a hard core sex seen that should of been left out, just to grab the viewers attention obviously because they knew how much this movie sucked. It is not horror at all. Not in the least. It is a family crisis film not intended for children. Honestly, this is one of the worst films I have ever seen, and I would advise you to stand clear. Don't waste your time or your money.

I thought this movie was quite good.

In a world filled with loud, shallow, vapid horror films, this one at least tries for something interesting and humane.

It uses the melieu of the horror film to examine the way children see adult behavior. Much of the adult behavior in this film is portrayed as confusing and meaningless. Miles, unable to attach any kind of sense to the actions of the adults around him, is anxious and frightened.

I think the moral of the story, if you want one, is that if more adults could see how what they do is viewed by children, they might make different decisions.

In order for something to truly scare a person, it has to resonate with that person on a fundamental level. It has to be REAL to them viscerally. I am not scared by ghosts, vampires, werewolves, demons, swamp monsters or anything like that. I know none of those things exists, so they have no sway over the darker parts of my imagination.

Most "horror" movies fail for me because they don't engage me with their characters or ideas. They are full of shock sequences, but "shock" is very different from "fear". Being afraid demands I be involved somehow.

So, if characters are sympathetic, I can be "afraid for them". This movie worked on me because I was never not afraid for Miles, and cared very much about what happened to him.

Finally, a fan of this film who has something worthwhile to say and does not insult those who disagree. While, I in the end feel that though Fessenden's intentions were good and that it was trying to be different, it still failed.

I do like your thoughts on this really being about how Miles views adult behavior. I would like to see a movie about that without the Wendigo stuff to muck it up.

I also agree that horror is one of the most subjective genres because what we each fear is such a personal thing stemming from natural tendencies and our experiences. I also believe you are right that the most successful horror films make you care about the people and make you fear for them.

Anyway, even though I disagree about the film, nice intelligent post.

There's a monster outside my room, can I have a glass of water?
