So does this movei have ANYTHING to do wih the actual Wendigo?

Dows this movie have ANYTHING to do with the actual legend of th Wendigo, and is it based on that. Do they show an artists perception of the wendigo at all cuz im very interested in that stuff.

reply

Not really. If you want a good explanation of a Wendigo (and for a good movie) watch "Cowboys and Indians: The J.J. Harper Story".

reply

Nope. The Wendigo is more of a cannibalistic zombie-type thing, a product of a man plagued with greed. Don't know how the writer thought up a deer-thing.

reply

I'm writing a movie script for the Wendigo. The Wendigo is a large cannibalistic spirit which takes over men and uses their body like a puppet to live. Usually depicted as being around 15 ft tall, 8 ft long and having white fur, it is an indian legend started up in canada.

I don't mean to disrespect you, but that sounds like a straight to video (not even DVD) 1980's style B movie, cheesy monster flick. If you're intending the script to be a piss-take comedy, then I apologize. Otherwise, I'd look for some more original source material to plagiarize.

Just google Wendigo, and you'll see it's been the bases of many movies, books, comics and even video games. Why not try something a little more original? Ever heared of zombies?

Zombies are so played out tho. The wendigo is unique and if used correctly, it could make a great movie. It's not written like a piss take comedy nor would I give it to someone like Uwe Bolle. I'm working really hard on this script and I'm really going to try on it. It focuses more on one main character, a gulf war veteran, who's family was murdered when he was a kid and has no friends or relatives left. But when an old war commander(now working for the CIA) comes and tells him that they have a lead in the murder case so he goes with him in a helicopter without really hearing the whole story. As they fly, they see something flying through the sky. They notice how it's a flaming car. (I even wrote how If it's shot in a movie, it would reflect in his eyes) He jumps from the helicopter and finds his commander. They run while both of them have several injurys and then reach a cliff. They jump down far into water and the main character is knocked out. The commander looks up at the edge of the cliff and the silouette of the monster glows in the moon and it roars. I also had this cool beginnning for an intro. The camera is rapidly movie through dense woods and then focuses on 3 men and a caption says the date is the 1800s. It shows you a suddle peek of the wendigo but is an interesting beggining. I've been working very hard on this script since 2003 and I'll make sure it doesn't turn into a B movie VHS. I want the main character to really have a gloomy but tough nature and someone like Thomas Jane or at one point I thought Viggo Mortinsen would play him well. I'm sorry if you think it will suck, but I've rewritten it a lot. If you have any suggestions on what I can change, speak. (Personally, I think the commander should be replaced by someone else because why would a guy convienantly go from military service to working to the CIA. I just realized that's pretty cheezy, I'll change that.)
Go.

Firstly, I'm sorry for how my post sounded. I'd had a really *beep* day at work, we missed a huge milestone, and I kinda had to take the rap for it (I work for SCEE at Studio Liverpool). So I'm sorry for my sarcasm etc.

Your idea actually sounds interesting. I just watched 'I am Legend' after work tonight, and if that script can get an 'A' list actor and a huge studio behind it...anything's possible.

Naturally your concept needs a little refining, but keep at it, don't rush it, and don't release it until you're sure it's ready. You might only get one chance at catching someone’s eye with it, so you need to try and time it as best you can (pure luck does play some role).

My only advice is to try and find an agent. If you've at least a third of the script done, with a complete synopsis, you should start touting it around now. You'll never get any studio, Movie or Video game, to look at it without one (but I'm sure you know that).

Good luck, and happy Christmas.

Stepehen King's "Pet Sematary" has used the wendigo mythoolgy quite good (and frankly very frightening). Read it, basically the movie left out the wendigo party, it's basically the spirit in control pf the Pet Sematary. whhen someone comes back from the dead, it's the wendigo that is in the vessel, not the persons soul. King also smartly uses the older legends that some people on here have allready posted.

Gun, that is the most hilarious thing I've ever read. I love how it turns into Rambo halfway through.

reply

Yeah, I gave up on that a while ago. And I hadn't seen any of the Rambos when I started writing.(but now that I have, that is pretty funny.

Now I'm working on a movie adaption of the short story "The most dangerous game." It's easier to adapt than to write.

The Colt M1911A1 .45 ACP is the greatest handgun ever made.

Here's a hint, one screenwriter to another--

Don't lay out your ideas on a public forum, especially one dedicated to movies that LOTS of writers, agents, producers and directors scan all the time.

You're very likely to get scooped.

If you EVER tell somebody about your script idea, have them sign an NDA first, and then only if you think they can help you sell it, get it seen by someone that can sell it, or become attached to it.

PERIOD.

Stop talking and start writing.

Oh, and see lots of films, like, two a night, at least, so you don't mess up and plagiarize Rambo or First Blood accidentally.

Good luck.

Or better yet, read the classic short story "The Wendigo" by Algernon Blackwood:

It's got loads of atmosphere--which admittedly is hard to transfer to the big screen, but might get the creative juices flowing.

Totally agree. A fantastic story, very creepy and it could make a great movie if they can create the terrifying atmosphere.

Best Wendigo movie ever- "Ravenous".

Yes, get larger after every human they eat so they'll never be full.

Depends on how he writes it I think.

Zombies are not original. Plus, I personally think many cannibal movies are scarier than zombies films, because cannibals are real, zombies aren't.

Yeah that's a good one. Scary. I hope to pick it up next time I'm at Future Shop, it's only $7.99, it's that freaky big mouth cover.
