Why so many loose ends?

Is this a 90s thing? To leave fans thoroughly dissatisfied? Seems like if they knew the show might not get another season or movie, they'd wrap things up for the fans. Instead, nothing is answered. Nothing resolved between Ms. Parker and Jarod. What a horrible way to treat loyal viewers!
