Boring!

I'm sorry, I love Al, but this film was terrible. I spent 500 won (about 50 cents) to rent it and I still want my money back! Al's southern accent was amusing, at least for a little while. But it wasn't enough to carry the film. The plot seemed to lack direction, it was way too talky, and the ending was too abrupt! I thought Simone was so-so, but even that was a masterpiece compared to this!

I agree, Pacino accent and performance was way over the top and totally destructive this time. The leftist PC message was hard to swallow. For example, listening to that Panther jerk rant on about police repression when he is a member of a Communist revolutionary org dedicated to violence really makes me lose any repect for the main character. Supporting the Panthers was one of those destructive little 60's thing like supporting Mao, Ho or Fidel, but is accepted without question.

It's a better film than this thread suggests and certainly a better performance, it is a very good performance - he nails the desperation in the character to a T.

His accent is just fine, as I mentioned in another thread, I know someone who speaks quite similarly with a similar background to the character he's playing. I always get baffled when people think they "know" an accent - anyway I guess it just comes down to whether you buy it or not.

It's a pretty good film as a character study - doesn't really work as a thriller.

Honestly, i would rate it in the top 5 worst movies ive ever seen...even less interesting then the corny SciFi original movies with the obvious mechanical robot monsters and Kool-Aid blood. i would agree though that Al Pacino is an amazing actor and nailed his character and accent....but i dont think any1 else did. and it was not inticing in the least bit...why would anyone want to see this movie?......

I guess a lotta people would find it boring, sure, as nothing much really happens. I personally think it´s much more interesting than it´s given credence for - it´s more of a mood piece & I´ve always found jazzy NY in winter time fascinating. Plus, it also helps it isn´t stupid. It´s a rather minor film and has its share of shortcomings all right, but Pacino´s performance sure isn´t one of them - actually, it´s a prime example that he´s well capable of playing "small" and not just powerful authority figures for which he´s been taking flak by some critics. He´s very impressive and although I have no idea what a Georgian accent is supposed to sound like, at least it was consistent. All in all, definitely worth a look at least.

Okay! Enough of this "Al is great" thing!
i really doubt anyone would like to challenge that, we all know he IS.
even the O.P mentioned that before going on about his/her opinion of how
much this movie was boring which was exactly my opinion too and i gave it
a low rating while mumbling: Sorry Al, but this was no good..
Now IF you'd like to argue that it was an amazing movie, please, be my guest!

I thought the whole movie was hard to follow, the plot was kinda of confusing and messy with way to many people involved. I wouldnt call it boring, just plain ordinary and random.

Too talky? 

There should have been more explosions, fisticuffs and gunfire!
