The perception of this movie

I think a problem I had with this, and certainly a lot of other people did, was the perception of what was to be expected. It is marketed as a thriller, so thats exactly what I was expecting; something tense, edgy with suspense and fast paced. However, I don't think it's a thriller at all, more of a drama.

If you sit down to watch this as a thriller you will inevitably be disapointed. If you view it as a drama, the result is better. I think it's redeeming feature is seeing Al Pacino playing a character you wouldn't have expected him to play.

Well, I rented this movie without any expectation about the style of it. I tried to watch it with an open mind, focusing on maybe some good acting, but I didn't get any.

The problem with this movie is that it has a cheap feeling to it. The actors don't seem to take their acting too serious, the story and plot twist are not very professional, and even the opening credits gave me the feeling this wasn't going to be a success. It plain sucked. That's my perception afterwards =)

It wasn't one of Pacino's best films but it was rather interesting. The first hour was perplexing to me. I was kinda lost after the scene with him in the bathtub and he woke up the next day clueless. I mostly watched it because I love Al's acting and even though his southern drawl was at times annoying, I liked his character. The ending left me disappointed.

He woke up the next day clueless because he mixed and matched abunch of prescription medication and also smoked opium at the secret club.

While I only consider this movie to be mediocre I did think it was somewhat interesting. I've only meant a few powerful political types, all of whom were local figures I would say it's fairly on target. At least in terms underhanded deals and shady meeting spots. Everything is always worked out that way.

As far as the drugs and sex party goes, yep. While I've never seen it myself, I had a friend that used to manage a pretty high class nightclub and the VIP room was crawling with celebrities in addition to many people you would never expect to be there doing all kinds of crazy things, the least of which being opium and fairly standard sexual practices.

It's a pretty good movie, with a very good (and very interesting and daring) Pacino performance.

As a character study it works fine - as a thriller.....it doesn't work.

Still, an interesting, pretty good flick if you invest your thought into it.

The movie is dead accurate. Power corrupts. I thought it was actually one of the best movies made depicting the elites in contemporary society.

I agree with some of what you say. It's more of a psychological drama than a thriller.

I liked the movie. But i agree there's something missing in it to make it GREAT. someone is the production should have taken his job more seriously i think.

I didnt know what to expect from the movie, since ive never heard of it. I just watched it cause there wasnt anything else to watch.
My perception was that it was a pointless movie. It never took off, so to say.The plot didnt go anywhere. I thought that at least the last 20-15 minutes wouldve been somewhat intense with a confrontation or something but they were just as pointless as the rest.
It was kind of confusing with all these characters who talked,I didnt care one bit about them.

i mostly will not be able to answer your reply, since marissa mayer hacked my email, no notification
