i just saw this movie and was astounded at the connections to old "myths" and or histories of earth. i wanted to see who wrote it to see if they knew what they were writing or were they merely making a monster film.

there are many authors now who are questioning the standard version of earth's history ... some say we come from ETs and some say an older unknown civilzation .... regardless of whether or not they are right or wrong there is evidence of these stories, beliefs or myths ...how ever you want to label them... these stories talk about the fact we come from another race ... these stories orginate , seemingly, out of early sumeria ...and eygpt and IRELAND .

there are several versions but basically it says the mother of our race was either a mermaid, mermaid with wings, or a dragon so it is interesting that this movie tied all theories together ...remember early in the movie the old guy said that the old stories used to call the mermaids "bird maids" ...

there are carvings in eygpt of "lillith" ... and she is a woman with webbed feet ... she looked like the human version of the mermaid in this movie ...

then there is the story that says adam and eve were part human and part from these bird /fish creatures ... that they were special hybrids kept separate
and these hybrids were frequently red headed and very psychic

and when we going through the 9 months in the womb at one point as a fetus we have a tail .

there are many books on this subject.

but to answer your questions ...as i understood the movie as it related to these old myths. your questions are listed below with my thoughts

1> In the begininng the old woman came to kill the mermaid the same way Lily did. Yet the mermaid killed her but not Lily. Why was that? Wasn't the old lady pregnant with the mermaid's child too?

the old lady wanted to kill the child and kill the mermaid .... the mermaid knew lilly was going to care for her becasue she was psychic

note the name lilly and the name i mentioned above ..lillith .... if you do not know the story lillith was said to be the mate to adam before eve ... when he mated with eve lillth left and became the mother of the demons.... but actually the recent reserchers say lillith was a "mermaid/dragon" who carried human eggs altered or combined with her eggs to make hybrids which became our current species .

and some humans are suppose to have more of the mermaid DNA than others... especially irish and or redheads .... so the mermaid probably had a strong dna emotional connection with lilly

2> Is there a sequel, because i would see it.

it was probably made with the hope it would be a tv series but no one has picked it up .... it needs a weekly plot rather than just a seasonal plot

3> The queen of the mermaids isnt a very good "provider" as Lily put it. I mean she has been gone for so long and she brings back a ship with maybe 12 dead men for her the entire mermaid population. I am not very good at math but. . .

please ....i am sure they found food elsewhere ... but definately a weak point in script ... no reason to explain it ..i am sure mermaid would merely want to go home

4> So could someone explain the whole little girl? What is she?

so she is an hybrid even if she is between lilly( lillith) and angus(adam) because lilly is carrying the mermaid dna ... which may have been more activated through the contact with mermaid ... oh by the way the stories from sumeria and eygpt also talk about these mermaid women/dragon women being fertility goddesses. could this be because they were making hybrids?

5> Why did the mermaid learn to say Angus's name? What did that signify?

she wanted angus( adam) to make a race of people with her DNA

6> When the mermaid touched Lily w/ her tail did that help her become Lily in a way (Like the sex scene?)

no ...lilly is carrying mermaid DNA and begins to "channel" the mermaid ... if lilly has mermaid DNA then she also is very psychic also ... she was channeling like a psychic medium.

so the little girl is going to be part mermaid whether or not she has a tail .
she is the new queen

and the dragon, that the mermaid turns into, is not a rip off from the alien movie... probably the other way around,in the sense that it fits in perfect with the old stories or myths ... even the shape shifting part ... the look of the dragon and mermaid and mer-human is all perfect for the old stories ad myths

and the stories go into present day in england, as there is someone in england who is promoting TODAY that queen elizabeth is a shape shifting dragon ...
i am not kidding ...

so this little movie is pretty amazing ... i would love to know what the author knew of these other stories ... and i wonder what the name of the girl would have been ? ...eve? elizabeth? or maybe sarah?

please understand these are not my theories but from recent books and web sites i have read . ... the authors have slightly different versions of these histories but all of them attempt to support it with artifacts and documents ... it is interesting and expansive for the mind to consider alternate explanations to our history .

if i am trying to do anything it is to get the author to write part two with more of this information.

after writing the above post i did find an interview with author . he said he was always interested in mermaids and he did try to bring up some of the old myths but it was mainly created becasue HBO approached him regarding their series of creature features .

he also said certain scenes were cut due to money ... ie there was supposed to be a scene where all the mermaids are seen eating all the men etc etc ... but it was too expensive to show all those monsters .

i also left out a lot of the theories ... some of which are even stranger regarding vampires and what these authors believe was the root of the myths ... it is not the same as shown in the movie ...
oh by the way the guy who says queen elizabeth is a dragon is david ecke ... icke ? i do not know the spelling but i am sure you can find his web site ... again i am not saying i believe all this ...i just think it is interesting

The little girl's name is Miranda. It's in the cast list at the end of the film. I did a little research into the film's history and it turns out it was loosly based on a real life case where a ship's captain deviated from course on the way to the north pole and thereafter continued his journey erratically over sea and land as if trying to escape puruist. He even went to the extremes of leaving most of his crew behind a few at a time, 'to delay that which follows'. A very weird story in truth. My guess would be that the author of this storyline decided that the captain was running froma mer-creature and so made it part of his film. Your insights were very good too though. I would guess you are very classiclly educated.
