the best mermaid movie by far

I saw many films about mermaids, and I think this is the best by far, 'cause in this film the creature is like a REAL one. I hope the new parts will be made in the shortest time possible. I recommend you this movie if you wanna see a good horror.

Just after seeing this and really enjoyed it, hoping for more aswell!

Yep - same here! :-D
I must say I was quite impressed - even a little freaked out/scared at a few points.
It reminded me of the old "B movie" horror films, but with a fantastic star list, and an awesome storyline.
The ending (as in last three seconds - hehe) was a little predictable, but I enjoyed it a lot - the last ten minutes were particularly exciting and very different from anything else that I've seen. Kudos to everyone involved, for that! Lolz.
A sequal would certainly make my day! With better special effects, of course.

yea, I saw this broadcast on UK TV in a late night slot & was quite impressed by it...good script & acting, definetly a cut above the average made for tv movie

Darn board put my post in the wrong place. This is supposed to be under HorrorFan's post, which asked if the mermaid was the queen. Yes, she was the queen. That's why she was feeding the mermaids at the end, because she was queen and provider

reply

I have to strongly disagree with you on that! The lovely and gracious Carla and Rya made this movie watchable, but the plot was formulaic and the SPFX were substandard. The story itself was very original and interesting, too bad they couldn't pull it off! I do hope for a second, maybe they will have worked the kinks out.

"Let me tell you something ass-eyes, let me tell you ALL something: WAR! has made me very PARANOID! and when you get to eye-balling me, makes my Agent Orange act up, makes me want to KILL! Killin'is my business, ladies, and business is good!"

I liked this movie. I liked how the mermaid effected Lily as she did. I would have liked to have seen more of them together but this was good. Carla is a wonderful actress and I liked her character. I had read that mermaids have that effect on men but this was a nice twist. Turning into a monstor was a surprised thought.

I really liked the film, but you've got to admit "best mermaid movie ever" isn't much of a stretch seeing how its (live action) rivals are:

Splash
That one made-for-tv Splash clone
and the much-anticipated (at least, by me haha) Aquamarine

I hate rude behavior in a man. I won't tolerate it.- Captain Woodrow Call

reply

By "best mermaid movie", do you guys mean by special effects or storyline? I personally think the special effects in "Aquamarine" and "Splash" were awesome.

reply

Yeah, the film got me interested as it went along.

I'm dreading M. Night Shaymalan's LADY IN THE WATER which is about a building superindendent that finds a mermaid in the pool. (Big YAwn!)

I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Squishy.

reply

Actually, it's not just about that. The mermaid, or nymph, is trying to escape to another world and the building guy has to help her before certain otherworldly enemies kill them both. Sounds interesting to me

reply

It had better be greater than The Village, or I'm going to be SERIOUSLY cheesed off!

reply

Don't worry, as long as the nymph/mermaid isn't really just a woman wearing a costume and pretending to be supernatural (like the retard in The Village), I'm sure it'll be cool :)

reply

Hey, King of Night, how come you deleted all your posts in your "Worst Representation of Mythology I've ever seen" board? Just wondering

reply

erm, sorry- Lady In The Water doesn't mention any mermaids at all! mermaids and sea-nymphs aren't the same thing! you'd have to be well-knowledged on Greek Mythology to know that!

i have it, and she is NOT a mermaid! she hung out in the pool, though. she has legs.

I hope they existed! I love mermaids! But looking into real life they seem to not be able to exi-
I CAN'T SAY IT! but you get what I mean. I ignore people who go "NO Katie! They AREN'T real!!!" specially my brother. ;( we always have fights over them. I'll show him all these paintings of mers on my ipod and be like "Then how do you explain this photo?!" and he'll roll his eyes and go "Oh REALLY?!". It goes on for hours....lol.
But I do love this movie. Haven't seen it yet but I've seen so many clips I can tell it'll be GREAT.

"I saw many films about mermaids"

And how many is that? I find it hard to believe there's all that many movies about mermaids and of the few that exist, most are comedies.

reply

I must agree that the mermaid costume was excellent! But one cannot agree that Daryl Hannah's in Splash wasn't as good!!!!!!! Her red fish-tail was a definite perfection to fins and scales!!!!!

reply

This movie was awful. The storyline was horrible. The main guy's accent was terrible. Carla Gugino was the only good thing about this movie.

reply

Agreed. This film offered a very fresh, inspired, eerie, and even poetic take on the standard mermaid premise.
