LALEE "LAURA LEE" WALLACE PASSED AWAY MONDAY, 11/24/2008

"She was the main character of the film Lalee's Kin broadcast on HBO. Lalee was a most caring, devoted mother and grandmother, taking extraordinary responsibility in tending to the needs of both immediate and extended family. As a maker of the film I felt totally obligated to give her the kind of care she gave her children extending as best I could my heart and talent behind the camera. Once the film was finished we brought the film to her trailer for her viewing. Upon seeing the film she commented, "That's the truth." And had just one complaint--"couldn't you have made it longer?"

I was very sadden to hear that LaLee died, but I just wanted to say to you that you saw something that a lot of people do not want to talk about, POVERTY! I am so grateful for the film, bought the video and shared it with my grandchildren to let them to know that there are others so much less fortunate than we are! She seem to be such a caring and loving woman and I pray that perhaps you will consider going back to update us on how the rest of the family is doing. Have they moved away, did the school get the supplies they needed, are the people living any better, is there more lighting for the people to see at night?
