I read this in a review of the film:

"A group of men appear to be beating someone up with baseball bats - Suleiman's subsequent sight gag reveals that it's not a man they're pummelling, but the truth is somehow even more disturbing."

I didn't get it. What were they beating with the baseball bats?

If I remember correctly, it was a snake.

Yeah it was a snake. They beat it for awhile, then someone shoots it. Finally they burn it.
