Want to start watching this but just want to know a bit more about it?
Is it quite action orientated? Does the female lead have a lot of action scenes and hand to hand combat?

Yes and yes.
I highly, HIGHLY recommend the comic series. It's my favorite comic (not that I read many) and Top Cow in general is an excellent company with lots of great titles. There's a few spin-off comics too, overall it's a much better story.
Although I do recommend the TV series, too. If you decide to check out both the comic and the TV series, try to separate them in your head, the TV show is so different it's barely even the same franchise.
