English?

I know the film is a parody but I lost count of the number of times it confused "England" with "Britain". At one point they even showed a map of the whole UK and called it England.

I'd have given the film a higher score, but as a Scot this deliberate insult destroyed the film for me. Repeatedly.

Who says the Scots have a chip on their collective shoulder? ;-)

reply

Well foreigners do often mistake "Britain" to be just "England" but yes it did get rather annoying. I imagine it would annoy the Welsh too.

I think you should change "delibirate insult" to "deliberate joke" as thats what it was, it is hardly the film makers fault your lack of a sense of humour makes you feel insecure and paranoid whenever a joke is played at the expence of 'bonny' Scotland.

reply

A one-off joke can be funny. Repeated, endless jokes become bullying.

The fact that you can't see that doesn't mean I lack a sense of humour, it means you lack a sense of basic decency.

Yeah just saw it on tv tonight. They did make up for a bit with the three Bishops from Scotland Wales and England so they do acknowledge we exist.

reply

In my language an official name of Britain is "English". Britain essentially are English and all its provinces.

Even Simon Pegg cried out loud "England, England, England" at a outdoor buffet scene in the movie of "How to lose friends and alienate people".

If it makes you feel better it was a French character that misidentified the whole island as England.
