unisex bathrooms?

carla and paul are seen a few times in the same bathroom.
Is it commom in France for the bathrooms to be unisex?
I've just never seen one here in the U.S. (besides ones that are for use one person at a time).

They're out there in the US too, a bit rare but they exist.

You see both in France. When it's unisex no one cares, but when it is separate you have to follow the rule. Strange indeed.

A guy I worked with was in the army and stationed in Europe in the late 1960's. He said he walked into a public restroom in Paris and a woman came in while he was urinating.

He almost freaked out and a Frenchman told him in broken English, "Don't think anything about it, she doesn't"

somebody needs to start traveling more! Not so common as you think, but go to Sweden or Scandinavia in general and you'll be "shocked"

Yes, in Europe it's common, but they are aware of Americans and the bathroom. In Nice, at a very small restaurant, there were two separate one-room toilettes - for either male/female - but outside the rooms, we shared a sink with a mirror. As innocent as that was, it still felt strange sharing the sink.
