Walken didn't know anything about the situation, Johnny wasn't looking for a handout. It wasn't until the very end that Walken showed up to bankroll Johnny. And they weren't going to just run away from a game like that with such high stakes. If he had lost I fully expect that Walken would've bailed out Danny, but in the moment, he had to bankroll Johnny.

Technically he could of, but that doesn't really seem right to go to your girl firends's uncle to bail out your brother. The reason why he asked for money to play was because Christopher Walken's character told Johnny's that if he's ever in a high stakes game again to give him a call (to get in on the action).
