In my top 5 really disturbing movies

I watched this film on YouTube a few years ago while researching Ben Whishaw's filmography. I was really affected by it (probably because I was a lot younger) and could not get some scenes out of my head for a long time. And it is very rare that a movie sticks to my brain like this. The issues that this film addresses are so delicate and deeply disturbing, and I've watched a fair amount of messed up *beep* so I'm not faint-hearted. This film and Mysterious Skin with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as well as Irreversible with Monica Bellucci are at the top of the list of movies that I felt like throwing up after watching them. What are some movies that you think are really messed up and disgusting?

I was actually just thinking about how this is one of those films that I can't get out of my head, either. I first saw it somewhere between 8 and 10 years ago, I think, and then watched it again maybe 5 or so years ago. My Brother Tom (2001) and Ratcatcher (1999) are easily two of the most gutting, emotional, and exhausting films I've ever seen--and yet, there's something incredibly gorgeous about them. To quote Yeats: there's a "terrible beauty" in both. A beautiful terror, too.

I actually came to the My Brother Tom board out of curiosity, as I was thinking of rewatching the film. But somehow, I can't make myself do it just yet (admirer of Mr. Whishaw as a I am). Maybe it'll be better another time around, since I know what to expect...

I can't even imagine what the actors felt, filming it. I feel too broken and emotionally wasted at the end to even cry.

"I always have a wonderful time, wherever I am, whomever I'm with."
