For those of you who are seeking this movie. Also some of my opinions.

It's available on Amazon Instant Viewing. This film really affected me as I have severe anxiety and used to self harm similarly to Katie did. I think the film was done very well, it's absolutely heartbreaking. The young girl who played Katie was excellent, I imagine it's very hard to act that troubled without personally experiencing it.

I think everyone who plans on being a special ed teacher should watch this film. I had a lot of trouble in special ed with teachers being too strict with me, or threatening me with detention meaning I couldn't go home. I didn't know for how long a period of time it was for, I'm guessing just an hour but it terrified me none the less. My point is special ed teachers should be more understanding of highly sensitive people like Katie. Most highly sensitive people are that way because of neurology, in case someone believes I'm suggesting all highly sensitive people are that way because of abuse.

I think it makes a statement that highly sensitive students should not be placed in special ed with students that act out unpredictably or aggressively. A student bullying you and being allowed to create a atmosphere of terror is just as bad as Katie's dad terrifying her. Especially since those students are never punished as it's just seen as a special need problem they are working on. I had the experience of a student bullying me into silence by constantly mocking what I said. I still know the terror of being forced to speak in front of him only to be hurt again.

If this movie should stand for making any impact, it should be that special ed teachers learn that students like Katie aren't self harming for attention. They are likely being abused by students who prey on those weaker than them. No amount of blaming the victim student for failing to have social skills, the skills apparently their bullies posess. Or telling them to ignore it will do more than create damage. There are thousands of students like Katie out there. They shouldn't have to self harm because their school does nothing about other students being allowed to create a hostile environment.
