Near the end of the movie is the front page of a newspaper with a headline about what's happened in the movie. The date is September 7, 2001. I guess we can assume the kids had a fun weekend, then on Tuesday things got a little more serious?

This movie was not released during the summer, it came out in the fall after the whole 9/11 thing. I remember it especially since this was when I left the movie theater business after being in it for 10 years, and so I did not see this during its theatrical run. I put in my 2 weeks' notice a couple days before 9/11, which made the whole thing even stranger.
