What A+E is and what it used to be

The situation with Hornblower movies and A&E illustrate what's happened with the network.

A&E used to be the place to go if one wanted to get away from reality shows.

No more. And its a shame.

A&E, The History Channel, TLC, USA, Bravo. They've all become c ra p. Hard to believe that the network that ran the Avengers, the Saint, the Hornblower series, MI5, and similar fare is now headlining its efforts with Dog, the Bounty Hunter. The History Channel, meanwhile, has given itself over to the "history" of UFOs, endless installments on big trucks and machines, and screenings of the Road Warrior. USA is end to end repeats of Law and Order. Discovery and TLC seem to run nothing but shows on hot rods, motorcycles, home redocorating. Pretty pathetic.

reply

Yeah, you might as well call "The History Channel" the "Anti-Christian Channel" because of it's attempts to dicredit the Bible on every documentary. If they're not running one of their "fair and balanced religious shows" they're showing factory documentaries about making charcoal and crap.

And don't get me started on their video-game war documentaries.

reply

I thought the History Channel should be renamed The WWII channel. They seem to not realize that other things have occurred over the last few thousand years.

Down the rabbit-hole I GO…
what I’ll find no one knows

They stopped making the seires because it was too expensive for them.

Ioan Grufford, however, has stated he is interested in continuing making the series, up to and including a remake of Captain Hornblower, RN.

I am not saying the only reason they stopped making these movies because of the cost, just saying that it is one of the reasons.
