I noticed it too. Some reviews on amazon are plainly crippling.
When I watched it on tv, I was in awe at how well everthing was explained. My love for astronomy was once again booming because of this show! Of course it will lack a certain depthness. But when you can envision the universe and make people interested and understand, people who normally don't give a (fill in word of your choice) about the stars... it's more than worth it!

There is a reason for those bad reviews. The reviewers who thought it was bad were high.

The reason as to why this docummentary had bad reviews is because it feeds us with a dumbed down version of the actuall facts, almost like a medical docummentary about open heart surgery in which the narrator explains that a man will be cut open and they'll tinker with his ticker. It works, however, to entice our curiosity instead of serving as perfect guide to astro-physiscs and astronomy. I'd give this series a 10/10 rating for sheer simplicity, instead of explaning the thousands of odds of an asteroid actually hitting the earth it explains how it's done and that it may happen at any given time, which is true as a matter of fact. Instead of explaining why wormholes punch holes through space with technical mumbo-jumbo it simply states that wormholes punch a hole through space and that's that. It serves as a guide, to raise questions instead of answering, why does a star collide in it's own gravitty? Why does a wormhole punch a holethrough space? Why does our sollar system move the way it does in our galaxy? Questions raised in this documentary and anyone curious enough will look for the answers.

I though the Movie was awesome. Alot of info in there I didn,t know or think about before. Sam was really good in the movie too. Cause of Sam making the movie Interesting, I didn,t fall asleep or get bored. A long movie too. But really good. i don,t understand the Bad reviews. Doesn,t make any sense to me why someone wouldn,t rate this movie as a good movie.

The part that really made me think. Everything around us was once inside a Star. Now that got my attention. Didn,t really think about that before.

I have a big reason. The people who told us that this great documentary is a crap are in fact jealous with this documentary, because they know that they couldn't explain better the space than this. They couldn't explain better the space even in their finiest dreams. It's simply enormous jealousy!

We watched this in my school, it was very interesting, we infact watched it in Religious Studies and this DVD made me interested in this subject again because instead of feeding us all this bull about religion we actually got some cold hard facts which were very interesting!

I though the movie was really good. Sam was really good. Didn,t look like he was just reading from cue cards like most people in movies like this. He was really into it. The end drags a bit. But the first 3/4th of the movie is really good.

Although I warmed up to Sam Neill as the disc progressed, I actually prefer the series 'The Universe'. Their use of actual scientists like Alex Filippenko in their respective field to explain facts and theory is more appealing to me, as opposed to a commercial actor. Or perhaps I just have the hots for Amy Mainzer.
