The snake and the Egg thing?

I've watched the movie once on DVD and won't bother again, except to maybe watch the deleted scenes to make sense of the whole thing.

I appologize too if this was mentioned in any of other threads, but what was with the snake and egg and talking about being born. I guess they meant the things in the house, but I was waiting for this egg to crack or something.

Ok, I'm not sure I'm right, but the way I interpreted it is that he was doing many and different kinds of experiments with the darkness and evil forces, he was deeply involved in it no matter if his granddaughter wanted to believe he wasn't really bad (like when she said he couldn't kill his son cause he loved him too much but he disagreed, saying he didn't do it exactly cause he DIDN'T love him enough for it to work properly). I've heard that this way is supposedly the way to create the mythical creature basilisk (if I'm not mistaken...), a reptile that kills and is greatly evil. It's born from an egg of chicken that was hatched by a snake (a certain species of it I think) and so on... Either that, or he just was cruel enough to hatch this egg, only for the little bird to get eaten from the snake the moment it was born (a kind of play between life and death and maybe the 'power' he thinks evil has against good?).
That's just what I got from seeing the movie, my thoughts. I've not googled it or anything like that.
bye

The egg symbolizes the soul in many cultures, and the snake is regarded as a symbol of evil more than occasionally. So it could have been that grandpa was just making a reference to those two symbolic meanings and hinting at a rebirth of an evil soul that would bring total chaos to the world. Remember that the dad was killed in the center of a ring that was a snake swallowing its own tail, which signifies eternity, or an endless loop. This is also the symbol of the cult. The rebirth of eternal darkness? All scriptures say that there was darkness at first.

This is allusion on birth of Antichrist, who will destroy our world and will bring darkness and hell into Earth.
