Visually terrifying

I don't care what anyone says, this is one of the scariest horror movies of the post-millennium era in terms of sheer visuals. The plot is not cohesive as many people have complained about, but the entire movie has a pervasive unsettling atmosphere that is largely to do with the way it was filmed. The hyper-cutting and jittery effects of the children and whatnot at the end are cliched I guess, but they're really well-done here. The last ten minutes of this film is one of the scariest I can recall of any horror movie in recent years. I saw the film a couple of days after Christmas back in 2004 and I've never forgotten it.

Agreed. It's the Lovecraft feel too I think. I could've done without the cliche hyper-cutting, although well done. I also like the image of the snake and egg and the whole anti-christ feel. Weird how lena olin only plays in hellish movies most of the time.

Just something from a film I like.
