Yeah, they really didn't "click" as a family.

4 bad actors will ultimately create a bad family.

I don't think Anna and Iain are bad actors, and the kid was alright, but they just didnt have the family quality that you get with other movies.

They were the most un-family-like family that I've ever seen in a movie. No family vibe at all, just a collection of people together in the same house.

reply

hum... do u mean like a dysfunctional family (wich is what this movie show us)?

reply

OK, my question is, were they an unconvincing family because they were supposed to be that way (as in, dysfunctional), or were they simply bad actors? Because to me, it felt that they weren't supposed to be close because of all the bad history they have had. The father was screwed up, so he screwed up the kids, and they don't trust him, and the mother has her own issues, and she and her husband have issues. The only two who seem to somewhat get along, are the kids.

Being married to someone with a mental illness is *hard.* The mom was dealing with her husband's deterioration and her daughter's sulky resentment, and the brother's weird behavior. So yeah, they had a weird family dynamic.

They were not the Brady Bunch for sure BUT the Brady Bunch is a way more unrealistic family than this wtf, where do you live where there are perfect families? Pleasantville?

Top a the morning to ya

You cant stand movies where the family doesnt get along? what a strange thing to say. Why does that make them "unconvincing" exactly? there are plenty of families with issues in the real world. if anything that makes it seem more real. you may want to stick to Leave it to Beaver.
