Re. "It ended the way that it did, because at the time, there was every intention of going into a second season. The cast and crew were all prepared to come back, the sets were still standing, the network was very happy with the first season, and wanted more.
"What happened was, they lost one of their major financial backers, and weren't able to find a new source of funding in time to get the show up and running again.
"Rumour has it that they are still trying to bring the show back...though at this stage, they'd likely have to recast."
Funding. If it's not "ratings" (they never take into account people who record these shows in America), it's funding. Especially in Canada, where the film and television industry hit a major roadblock a few years ago.
Each year, the Canadian government gives a budget to the Canadian Film and Television Fund (or whatever it's called), which is supposed to be earmarked for Canadian productions. That year, however, a large chunk of that money instead went to American productions with Canadian backing. By the time the mistake was realized, the annual fund had just about dried up, and a lot of popular Canadian shows bit the dust that year. I dread to think if MythQuest may have been one of them.
Shame. Great show, deserved a second season, deserved a resolution to that cliffhanger mentioned elsewhere in this thread (haven't seen the episode yet) - guys, if you're reading this, please let's have a DVD release at the very least, and a second season if possible. This show deserves it. Thanks.
