Music

Anyone know where I can find the music written for the series? I love medieval and medieval-themed music, and the songs and score for the show were awesome. I haven't found any CDs being sold of it, though. Anyone know any sources?

I would like to get the music that is played in the earlier episodes, such as when the Queens and others are executed.

I recently became aware of John Dowland (a contemporary of Shakespeare) and got some CDs of his from the library. They are similar to what is played in AHoB. You may like it, as I do.
Thomas Morley & Thomas Campian were also around in that period of the English Lutenist Renaissance composers, if you can find any of their musick.

I, too, would like to have the full versions of the performances in AHoB.

The soundtrack is amazing
They have two versions of the old english folksong "The Three Ravens"..(the song at the very end of the doc) and they have a bunch of songs sung by Elvis Costello. Immortal (the opening theme) is the best song on there..it's an extended version rather then the small one they had on the show.

Hello all,

I've just found a 6-disc set which has all the episodes as listed, but the 6th disc has a lot of extras, including the complete soundtrack score.

Tracks are,

1) Sanctus

2) Immortal

3) St Godrick's Song

4) Farewell

5) Lady of the Light

6) Chanterai Pour Mon Courage

Good stuff it is, too.

If anyone would like an Mp3 copy, please let me know.

The lovely, haunting song that bookends many of the episodes, accompanied by the clopping sounds of a walking horse: is it Gaelic? I see Lucie Skeaping in the credits; is that she? I've never heard her, but I've heard of her. I've gotta get a CD. This presentation gets a 10-star grade from me, and the music, all of it, is part of the reason.

To anyone interested in buying the soundtrack of the beautiful music from the History of Britain by Simon Schama as I have, you have a few choices (at least as of today) where you can buy the CD.

1. eBay: As of today, one seller has a CD for $29.78 USD, free shipping;

2. Amazon: There are both new and used CDs available, beginning at $31.32 USD;

3. Amazon UK: There are both new and used CDs avaiable, beginning at 18.95 BP;

There are other web sites that also sell the CD. Be sure to do a Google search for "A History of Britain Soundtrack."

In one of the messages above, I believe someone asked for the name of the hauntingly beautiful music from the episode about Queen Elizabeth I and Mary, Queen of Scots. It is called "The Three Ravens", and here are the lyrics:

There were three ravens[2] sat on a tree,
downe a downe, hay downe, hay downe,[3]
There were three ravens sat on a tree,
with a downe,
There were three ravens sat on a tree,
They were as blacke as they might be.
With a downe, derrie, derrie, derrie, downe, downe.
The one of them said to his mate,
Where shall we our breakfast take?
Downe in yonder greene field,
There lies a Knight slain under his shield,
His hounds they lie downe at his feete,
So well they can their Master keepe,
His Hawkes they flie so eagerly,
There's no fowle dare him come nie[4]
Downe there comes a fallow Doe,
As great with yong as she might goe,
She lift up his bloudy head,
And kist his wounds that were so red,
She got him up upon her backe,
And carried him to earthen lake,[5]
She buried him before the prime,[6]
She was dead her self ere even-song time.
God send every gentleman,
Such haukes, such hounds, and such a Leman.[7]

I hope this helps!

Cheers,

I loved this song, and ordered "Terror and Magnificence", which this arrangement is originally found on.
